Adios Flash, Viva Team HTML, CSS & Javascript!

February 8, 2012 in Web Development

Truly in the World Wide Web, nothing is permanent but change. I have been developing websites for more than 6 years and I have been fascinated by flash sites.

Today I noticed that most of the websites are non-flash, and that bothers me. What if most of the things that I have learned from flash will soon be put to an end? Do I have to leave this old thing and see what’s new for the best? Yes, it’s about time to change coz the old has gone and the NEW has come!

The Rising of Mobile Sites

Yes, It’s official. Adobe is killing Flash development on mobile browser in favor of HTML5 which means the end of Flash is in sight and HTML5 is now the one true future for Internet video.

It started with “iPads and iPhones.” Well, according to Adobe at least, Apple is the one to blame for the recent death of Flash. Steve Jobs made Apple’s stance clear on not including Flash in iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone in an open letter entitled “Thoughts on Flash.” He also stated in the past that Adobe could never show Apple Flash running smoothly on an iPhone.

However, this was only following Adobe’s public frustration with Apple’s decision to not include it. Adobe has finally ceased development of Flash on mobile devices while agreeing that HTML5 is the “best solution for creating and deploying mobile websites.”

Introducing Javascript & CSS as the new FLASH

Technologies such as HTML5, Jquery, and CSS3 are now available to create the effects that you desire for your site that you don’t even need to use flash in order to animate and design. Media contents such as videos will be taken over by HTML5 in the future and CSS3 will soon rule the design for 3D & Text effects.

Take as an example http://www.cossette.com/. Open it in your iPad. The first thing in your mind when it opens is flash, but the truth is it’s not FLASH. It is run by HTML, CSS & Javascript. The truth is JavaScript and HTML have come to the fore of many contemporary sites nowadays because of its compatibility & SEO features.

Overall, it seems Javascript and HTML have come a long way to beat flash, which is gradually happening in the World Wide Web today. I’m expecting there is more to come and “Flash” will no longer be used on websites in the future. Expect that!
